four websites

a. I chose this picture because of the randomness and grey color, also how the rain is coming down in the back and hitting the water he's in.
b. I see balance in the picture kind of but not as much of it as other pictures on the website.
c. Jenna Martin shot this picture.

how to take great portraits
a. I chose this photo because I like the lighting used and how he is positioned by the window, having the light make a gradient on his face.
b. Cropping or filling the frame is used because the man is in the middle and the curtain on the right as the light fades away to the left.
c. MorkiRo took this photo according to the website.

a. I chose this pic because I enjoy the sky behind the bridge and all of the details captured on the bridge.
b. This photo uses leading lines and balance at the same time.
c. Jason D. Little shot this photo.

a. I chose the picture because of the color, I like the orange color and the fox just chilling in the grass.
b. This picture uses the rule of thirds with the fox on the right side of frame, that's what the photographer wants you to focus on.
c. Marek Hryniewicz shot this picture.

Magazine Cover Preview 2

My Favorite Cover:

"WSJ. offers its readers a wide lens on the world, covering topics from art to fashion to travel. That uncommon editorial agility is highlighted by the September Women's Fashion cover, for which photographer Mario Sorrenti captured one of fall's most coveted runway looks—a Balenciaga gown and thigh-high boots—worn by model-of-the-moment Faretta on a Venetian gondola. It's the perfect curtain raiser for the issue's 32-page portfolio showcasing the city's historic mystique and the excitement of the Venice Biennale, mixing groundbreaking fashion with portraits of sought-after artists such as Mark Bradford and Kiki Smith."

I like this picture for its lighting, or exposure. I like the way the light is coming in the lens from behind her body and under her arms. It almost looks as if she is controlling it with her super powers. Another reason I chose this photo is because it doesn't include any liberal propaganda unlike half of the other magazine covers on the website. But back to the cover, the other characteristics I enjoy are the colors on the woman and the setting. The background matches the woman's clothing perfectly, I'm not sure where the photo was taken but somewhere in Europe I'm sure.

IMAGE BASED:
Has one person looking at the camera smiling, mostly celebrity magazines.

ILLUSTRATION BASED:
Page made by draws pictures, something funny or out of the ordinary.

TYPE BASED:
Rare but more common than illustrated covers, consists of numbers and letters, no photos, sometimes drawings

CONCEPT BASED:
Can be a mixture of all the three designs above, best used to present a strong or funny message, used in business magazines.

The relationship between words on covers and photos on the covers is that the words won't catch one's eyes unless the letters or words make an image by the way they're arranged. It is important because using words could risk not selling as many copies.

Portraits & self-portraits preview

1. Two tips i like are these:The person in your portrait is the main point of interest – however sometimes when you place them into different contexts with different backgrounds you can dramatically alter the mood in a shot.

and

Side-lighting can create mood, backlighting and silhouetting your subject to hide their features can be powerful.

2.Environmental portrait:
 Image result for Environmental portrait”
i like this photo because of the action and lighting happening in the picture. I like how the sparks are bouncing off the metal and that they captured that.
Image result for Environmental portrait”
i chose this one because of the colors and mood you get from the sunset in the back.

3.  photography self portrait:
Image result for photography self portrait
this one stood out to me because of his camera and the setting of the picture. Also the focus is nice how its blurry in the back.
Image result for photography self portrait
i chose this picture because of the color contrast and the guys nice beard. the way his skin and the off white background contrast is perfect.

4. casual portrait:
Image result for casual portrait
i used this photo because it was the only b&w photo i could see so it popped, also i like the way he's positioned.
Image result for casual portrait
I like this one because i love Tom Hanks and he's sitting the same way as the guy above.

5. For my picture i want to shoot my baby sister (with a camera) and we have a really nice backyard, so I'll put her face next to the sky and trees under the sky. To make this successful, I will just wait til the sun sets and get the camera focused on her face. this will be an up close photo. With the low light at night time, i will need a faster shutter speed to get more light, but i want the photo to be a little dark to create that night time party type mood. I will have her face in one of the corners to do the rule of thirds composition rule.

ethics in fashion photography

1. For the first video, they changed her neck length, eye position, shoulder width, skin lighter, and mouth smaller and nose to make her more pretty.

2. They changed her leg length, skin color, body size (made her slimmer) her hair, face, and added or deleted shading in the second video.

3. For this last video, they apparently took a piece of pizza and made a model out of it. They did the usual in editing the girl's face, body and skin tone.

4. No it's not ethical, they could just get prettier girls or just use the girl they chose and not edit her shaping.

5. I can't think of a time it would be right to change someones body or face this much ever.

6. I think changing the skin tone isn't that bad, but the editing of their body shape to make them slimmer isn't okay.

7. Photojournalism doesn't morph the people's bodies or the picture in general at all, it only changes the lighting and colors of the photo.

8. Not sure how these two types of photography would relate to real life other than they can impact the women who look up to models or whatever and are starting to think that you need to be thin or fit to be pretty, which isn't true

9. I guess he showed us these videos to offend the girls or show us the importance of these issues.

10. I think they do these transformations to men too but maybe the ones that are about girls get more attention because they're more controversial or are more obviously morphed.

american soldier

A. i think the most powerful picture is the one where the Humvee is driving in the streets of Iraq and the kids in the streets, with their confused faces , have to get out of the way.

B. they work together by telling a chronological story of Fisher's life.

C. the captions help a lot with the pictures because for some of the pictures, you have no idea what's going on and the captions tell us everything about the background.

D. At age 17, Ian Fisher decides to join the army, he visits the recruiting office and says goodbye by having parties and saying bye to family before he leaves to basic training for 14 weeks. He hurts his elbow at camp, and has made a lot of new friends. he receives his first gun and after 8 weeks into camp, he trains under fire. he gets heat rashes and other little injuries. he graduates from boot camp and now is starting to be deployed into Iraq. he buys an engagement ring for his girl and proposes to her on Christmas. he and his girl break up and he becomes hooked on drugs. he gets baptized. He gets a new girlfriend and they get married.

E. present tense

F1. there are about 2-4 sentences per caption.

F2. it tells the people that are in the picture.

F3. this second sentence will say more information about the action happening in the picture.

F4. the third sentence will usually say additional info about the photo, like using a quote.

F5. there is a quote in quite a few of the captions to also help with the background info.

F6. A couple had 4 sentences, but they could've made the caption with 3 by using a comma or something.

G. You can only use captions, and it would be just like a picture book, so that's why you're able to only use captions.

H. Because things can happen in between that they might not have taken pics of or something, i don't really know the reason.

TOP100 (Migrant Mother)

1. I picked this image because ive seen this image before and it caught my eye because of the face of the mother in the b+w pic.
2. This picture was taken during the great depression and if of a mother and her three children. It is the most popular picture taken during this time and showed the world just by the face of one woman, how bad that time really was.
3. There were 160,000 pictures taken by Lange and other photographers for the Resettlement Administration, Migrant mother is the most iconic.
